SALE Probus Club are putting on a Zoom talk for their ladies in lieu of a Christmas lunch on Tuesday, December 1 at ll am.

The guest speaker will be Adam Partridge of TV and auctioneering fame.

Although he has appeared in Flog It, Bargain Hunt, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Cash in the Attic, Adam enjoyed Flog It, the most.

He was in it for 17 years until it finished in 2018.

He liked it because: “It was a reflection of what our trade really do for a living.”

Being a ‘people person’, Adam, 47, has many stories to tell.

He said: “Once I sold a couple of vases for £86.000 when the owner was in the room.

"He was so excited, he was dancing around.”

Another surprise was when he sold for £94,000 a vase which had been used in the porch as an umbrella stand at a house in Timperley..

His interest in auctions goes back to when, as a boy, he attended them with his parents and grandparents.

He said: “I left Oxford University after a year to become a porter in an auction room.”

His son, Ridley, aged 16 is already interested in joining the profession and Adam has also taken his younger son, 13-year-old Felix to an auction although Felix hasn’t yet decided what he would like to do.

Adam’s nine years with Marshall’s in Knutsford led, in 2008, to him setting up his own business between Congleton and Macclesfield.

He has a valuation office in Hale Road, Altrincham, acquired from Patrick Cheyne, which he has been running for over seven years. His greatest pride is having sold a Roman Artefact for 320 thousand pounds to a gallery in New York

He said: “It had been rejected by Christies as a Victorian fake and kept in the garden.”

Other interesting items to come under the hammer were a Jewish manuscript (£210,000) and a blanket from the Titanic.

Another string to Adam’s bow is his musical prowess.

He reached professional standard on the violin and also performs on piano and organ which he sometimes plays in church.

Speaker Secretary, David Shimmings, said: “After the March Lockdown many clubs shut down but I was determined to keep Sale Probus going on Zoom.

"I put together a varied program and have plans for 2021 including Witch Finding in Norfolk and Thefts, Fakes and Forgeries in the Art Worlld.

“Adam spoke to us in Feb 2019. He was a hit - especially with the ladies! I approached him after seeing him on Flog it.

Sale Probus are opening Adam’s talk to both men and women and a few free tickets are available.
