FOR the second year in succession, Sale resident, Janet Turnbull has produced a butterfly calendar.

Published by Colour Calendars and priced £8, the proceeds will go to Butterfly Conservation and the Boaz Trust which assists homeless asylum seekers,

Janet’s talent for precision photography shows in the detail of each month’s picture. It’s no wonder that, after taking a City and Guilds course in photography in 1996 she was made a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Her interest in the colourful insects began after she read a book, the Butterfly Isles, by Patrick Barkham who had photographed every species of British Butterfly in a year.

Janet, 68, said: “I thought that I would like to do that, although it took me four years to capture all but two of the 60 British species.”

Using her trusty Panasonic Lumix camera, Janet travelled the country to take her shots. She said: “Locally, I discovered about 20 species. For others I had to travel to Norfolk and the South of England.

“My favourite is the cover picture showing an Orange Tip. I also like the March picture featuring a Swallow Tail.
