BURY South MP Christian Wakeford has joined over 100 MPs and Peers across the UK to support groups who are marking National Mentoring Day.

The APPG for Mentoring and The Diana Award’s ‘One Hour, One Young Person, One Parliamentarian’ mentoring campaign’ are supporting young people to gain experience and knowledge on their options in life.

On Friday, October 30, Christian will be taking part in a virtual one hour mentoring session with a young person who has requested support and guidance through The Diana Award.

Mr Wakeford said:“I am very pleased to be taking part in National Mentoring Day this year and I am looking forward to spending an hour of my time this Friday speaking to one young person.

"I am sure this experience will be positive and both myself and the young person will be able to listen and learn from one another.”

The Diana Award is the Secretariat for The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mentoring and believes that mentoring is fundamental to breaking down the barriers of social mobility in the lives of vulnerable young people.

Dr Lisa Cameron MP, co-chair of the APPG, said: “I am delighted our first initiative has had such widespread cross-party support. By signing up to this campaign with The Diana Award Parliamentarians are making a stand alongside their peers to support mentoring. Mentoring is a two-way street and I’m equally looking forward to listening and learning from the young person I’m supporting.”
