A POPULAR coffee shop in Altrincham has been given a licence to sell alcohol into the night - but only on its ground floor.

Common Ground, of Shaw’s Road, is an independent cafe and bar run by husband and wife, Damian and Julie Besbrode.

The pair applied to Trafford Council for a licence to sell alcohol both on and off the premises, as well as the ability to play recorded and live music and films.

The new licence allows the venue to serve alcohol between the hours of 11pm and 1am Thursday to Saturday and between 11pm and midnight every other day.

It also extends the cafe’s opening hours until half past midnight from Sunday to Wednesday and 1.30am on Thursday to Saturday.

The cafe’s current opening hours are 9am until 4pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10am until 5pm on Sundays.

Trafford’s licensing sub-committee granted permission for the sale of alcohol and the extended opening hours on the cafe’s ground floor, but not for its first and second floors.
