POLICE went to several homes in Bolton over the weekend and handed out fines for coronavirus breaches.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers were called to a home in Farnworth on Saturday night after reports of a gathering and issued three fixed penalty notice (FPN) fines.

"A number of people from different households were at the address before being issued an FPN each and asked to disperse", police said.

On the same night in Great Lever, three fines were dished out after police were sent to a property.

A GMP spokesman added: "A number of people from different households were at the address before being issued an FPN each and asked to disperse."

And in another incident in the borough on Saturday. police visited a home after they were told six people were present.

A fine was given to the homeowner.

A GMP spokesman said: "They were from different households so after explaining the regulations, officers dispersed the group and issued an FPN."

The force is urging residents to follow the tighter rules to help stop the spread of covid-19 which apply in Bolton and does not allow people from other households to meet up in homes or private gardens.
