Police are appealing for help from the public following an attempted murder in Trafford.

At 2:10am this morning police were called by the ambulance service responding to a report of an injured man in The Grove, Flixton.

Police arrived and found that a man in his 20s had been assaulted at a petrol station on nearby Carrington Road.

Police believe the offenders fled the scene in a grey or silver Vauxhall Mokka in the direction of Carrington.

The victim has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and an investigation by police is underway.

No arrests have yet been made.

Detective Inspector Darren Scarr, of GMP's Trafford district, said: "This was a serious incident which has left a young man with multiple injuries. He remains in hospital but is described as being in a stable condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would appeal to anyone with information which may assist us to contact us or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

"We understand incidents like this cause concern within communities but I would like to offer some reassurance by saying that we do not believe this was a random attack and that extra officers are in the area."
