This is how Stretford Mall could soon look after a major refurbishment.

Trafford Council and Bruntwood developers, who jointly own the site after securing it in a £50million deal that included Altrincham’s Stamford Quarter shopping centre and Clarendon House office block, want to hear from those living nearby in the next stage of public consultation.

The first two sets of public feedback from November 2019 and January 2020 have been used to draft new plans for the site.

This next round of consultation will be held virtually, rather than in-person both online and via the post.

The last face-to-face community organised consultation event due to be held in March was cancelled.

New options for the Stretford Mall site and the council’s wider Stretford masterplan are now available to see online.

New pictures and artists’ impressions have been released and people can give their feedback online as well as order paper copies of the plans and provide feedback via Freepost.

Previous drop in events regarding the plans at Stretford Mall attracted thousands of people who shared their thoughts on how they wanted the plans to take shape.

People made it clear they wanted to see improved pedestrian and cycle links across Stretford, more independent businesses at the Mall, improved leisure and shopping facilities generally and better access to the area in the evenings.

Coun Andrew Western, Trafford council leader, said: “The previous two community engagement sessions were really well attended. It’s clear that the people of Stretford and town centre visitors care passionately about the future of the area.

“While it’s disappointing that we are unable to discuss our possible options with the community face-to-face, I am confident that this virtual consultation will give everybody the opportunity to have their say.

“We are determined that the community should continue to be properly included in the debate about how we continue to reinvigorate Stretford and its town centre.”

Andrea George, regional director at Bruntwood Works, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to our previous engagement events.

“We have used the feedback from previous events to inform this latest stage of consultation – these are ideas that have been shaped by the community who want their town centre to satisfy a variety of needs.

“Our aim is to help revitalise Stretford town centre by making it an even more vibrant place in which to work, live and play. We are looking forward  to hearing what people think of the latest ideas”.
