APPLICATIONS have opened for those seeking financial support as part of a government scheme being piloted in Blackburn with Darwen.

Employed and self-employed residents on low incomes in the borough who are self-isolating because of coronavirus may be able to claim up to £182.

A Blackburn with Darwen spokesman said: "The borough has been chosen as a pilot area for the new scheme which launched this month.

"A strict list of eligibility criteria is in place.

"Applicants will be asked to provide proof of employment, notification from NHS Test and Trace and a bank statement.

"Payments will be provided within 48 hours of the eligible individual providing the necessary evidence.
