AN Ulverston charity has been forced to adapt a popular annual fundraiser and community event.
This year’s ‘Walk to Remember’ event, organised by St Mary’s Hospice, was cancelled earlier this year due to the restrictions brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The event usually sees hundreds of participants complete a 10 mile twilight walk through the streets of Ulverston, finishing in Barrow.
The charity has instead decided to hold an adapted virtual event to raise funds and pay tribute to the memory of those who have lost their lives at the centre in recent months.
‘Balloons 2 Remember’ launches on Saturday, September 12 at 12pm.
Those taking part can personalise and track their virtual balloon.
A hospice spokesman said: “It was with such a heavy heart that we had to cancel our beloved Walk 2 Remember this year, we recognise just how important this event has become over the years with our loyal supporters.
“So we were determined to find an alternative that allowed our local community to come together to remember and celebrate the life of their loved ones.
“Although we appreciate it’s not the same we are pleased to announce Balloons 2 Remember.”
