A YOUNG drug dealer was caught out when customs officers intercepted a consignment of LSD from Germany, a court heard.

Two hundred and fifty squares of the hallucinogen were en-route from Europe to the Bury area, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

An investigation was launched after the package was traced to the home of James Warwick, then aged 21, in Radcliffe, the court was told.

And prosecutors say police ended up discovering separate hauls of ecstasy and cannabis when they searched the Withins Avenue property.

Warwick, who pleaded guilty to importing a class A drug, possession of both MDMA and cannabis with intent to supply, and possession of ketamine and amphetamines, is now beginning a 32-month prison term.

Jailing him, Judge Maurice Greene said the defendant, who had no previous criminal convictions, had secured good GCSE results and had a solid work record, with glowing testimonials from his employers.

But Judge Greene added: "I am told by your counsel that you had a drugs habit and that you were effectively selling, or going to sell drugs to reduce the debt you owed."

Andrew Mackintosh, prosecuting, said police had found a mobile phone, in Warwick's room, with messages which appeared to relate to drugs sales. Around £2,000 in cash was also seized.

The court heard the street value of the LSD was around £1,250. But he also had 96 tablets of MDMA, worth approximately £450 on resale, and 64 grams of cannabis, which would retail for more than £2,000.

Judge Greene said there also appeared to be the makings of a potential cannabis growing operation in Warwick's room, when police moved in.
