A lockdown was announced in Sale, Altrincham, Stretford, Urmston, Trafford and across Greater Manchester and in parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire last night, with a lot of confusion about what this means for people.

Here is everything you need to know.

Who can I now meet with?

Guidance from the government's department of health and social care says you should now not meet people you do not live with inside a private home or garden, unless you have formed a support bubble with them.

You should also not visit someone's else's home or garden if they live outside of the lockdown area.

Socialising with people you do not live with in indoor public areas, such as pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure or entertainment venues, is also no longer allowed.

You can only go to these places with people you live with, or are in a support bubble with, and should limit your interaction with other people whilst there.

Who is my household?

A household is defined as only people you live with. Not close family members who live in another household.

People in your support bubble can be treated as members of your household.

A bubble must only include a single adult household, i.e. people who live alone.

Can I still meet people outdoors?

You can continue to meet people in public outdoor spaces in groups of no more than six, as per national guidance.

You cannot meet people you do not live with in a private garden.

Can I still go to a pub, cafe, restaurant, the gym, and other public places?

Yes, but only with members of your household.

This applies even if you travel out of Bolton and other affected areas.

Can I still go to a place or worship?

Mosques and other places of worship have reopened for prayer and communal worship, but in a different socially distanced and COVID-19 Secure way.

This means people must maintain a distance of two metres from people outside your household, or one metre with a face covering.

Do I still have to shield?

People will no longer have to shield from August 1, unless they live in Blackburn with Darwen in the North West.
