HUNDREDS of people have booked into a new COVID-19 test centre in Hyndburn.

Hyndburn Council posted on social media about the news of the centre at Hyndburn Leisure Centre which is open for four days.

Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council said: “In order for NHS Test and Trace to be effective it is key that every single person with one or more symptoms of Coronavirus gets a test.

"By doing this we can protect our community and slow the spread. It is key that if you get a positive result you self-isolate and anyone you have been in close contact with also isolates as per NHS Test and Trace instructions.

“The best way to slow the transmission of Covid-19 in our community is to follow government guidelines at all times. This includes social distancing from anyone not in your household, washing your hands frequently and thoroughly and wearing a face covering when in enclosed public spaces such as shops or supermarkets, unless exempt.”

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden said:“Residents have been concerned with the rise in cases in neighbouring areas such as Blackburn over recent weeks and as we have now seen a small rise in Hyndburn, I have been pushing for a testing centre to come to us.

"This is very welcome in our borough, so we can recognise where any outbreaks are happening and effectively support NHS Test and Trace.

“The arrival of this test centre will make it easier for people to get a test if they need one.  I am asking Hyndburn residents to work together, let’s do it for Hyndburn, get a test if you need one so we can stop the spread of coronavirus in our community. It is free, quick and easy so please do not wait.”

The test centre is located at The Hyndburn Leisure Centre for the next few days and is on an appointment only basis.
