IT was a scene which would have been seen many times over around Bolton as the town’s great mills came to the end of their lives - the great sell-off!
In this photograph from February 1968 buyers are seen in the card room of the Beehive Mills on Crescent Road looking at the draw frames.
The mills had closed down and all the fittings were up for sale.
The Beehive Mills were twin cotton mills, the first being built in in 1895 with a second being added seven years later.
The mills became a distribution centre for catalogue chain Shop Direct before closing for good in 2011 and although a Grade II listed building permission was granted to redevelop it for housing.
