COMEDY group The Grumbleweeds were the guests of honour when Bolton’s Woolworth’s store reopened in 1989 after a refurbishment.
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Brian Allanson, cut the ribbon to declare the new-look store open. He was assisted by store manager Alan Powell and staff while The Grumbleweeds - Robin, Maurice and Graham - brought much laughter to proceedings.
The Grumbleweeds were, at the time, one of the country’s most popular comedy groups having just completed five seasons of their own ITV show and a regular radio show which ran for an amazing 15 series complete with impressions, comedy songs and their own madcap characters.
