Four men were arrested yesterday afternoon after a fight broke out in a pub in Urmston.

Officers were called to the Garrick's Head Pub at around 4pm to reports of four men fighting. One of the men had left the pub before returning with an axe.

Police arrested four men on suspicion of affray, while one man was also arrested for possession of Class A drugs and another was further arrested for drink driving.

Two men, who were not involved with the incident, were forced to leave the premises after they verbally abused the police officers at the scene.

A statement posted on Facebook Greater Manchester Police said: "Yesterday at around 4pm, numerous officers attended at the Garrick’s Head Pub, Urmston due to the reports of males fighting inside.

"Four males had started fighting over what appears to be a dispute over a table.

"One male left the pub and returned in possession of an axe.

"On police arrival a total of four males were arrested on suspicion of affray, one male was further arrested for possession of Class A Drugs and another for drink driving.

"Two males who were unconnected with the incident were also ejected from the premises as they felt the need to verbally abuse the attending police officers.

"All this at only 4pm in the afternoon, the premises was required to close for a period of two hours.

"Thank you to the vast majority of people who enjoyed their evening responsibly."
