TWO women from Sale West have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to their community during lockdown.

Beverley Jones and Lynne Stewart have been honoured by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Eamonn O’Neal, for going above and beyond to support people during the coronavirus pandemic.

Both have received certificates for their “outstanding activity and contribution to the community”. Based at Sale West community centre, they have been volunteering since the lockdown began.

They have been working hard and consistently to ensure residents in need in their community have everything they need at this difficult time.

The support hub provides food and medical supplies and supports residents to access financial support. It was set up by Our Sale West with support from local Housing Association Irwell Valley Homes.

No stranger to serving her local community, Beverley is usually found at the heart of the estate at the Sunshine Community Café, run by Irwell Valley Homes. When the café had to close due to the lockdown restrictions, Beverley began volunteering at the hub alongside Lynne who works for Our Sale West.

Sasha Deepwell, chief executive of Irwell Valley homes, said: “It’s fantastic to see the efforts of Beverley and Lynne recognised by the High Sheriff. Their selfless work and dedication is truly inspiring. Sale West is a vibrant neighbourhood and this award recognises the impact on the whole community when local people come together to support one another.”

Clare Standish, Sale community hub response co-ordinator, said: “The Sale community response hub has only been successful because staff and volunteers have selflessly given up their time for others.

Lynne and Beverley are a good example of this, going beyond their usual job role and volunteering their extra time”.

Lynne was nominated by the Mayor of Trafford Cllr Rob Chilton and Beverley was nominated by Deputy Lieutenant, Susan Craig from the Greater Manchester Lieutenancy.

Both Beverley and Lynne will be attending a celebration event with the High Sheriff when the restrictions are lifted.
