As more shops open, the Mall the team continues with rigorous safety measures including increased cleaning, 2m floor markings and the closure of seating areas and the multi-storey carpark to reduce touch points.

All of the retailers have worked hard to create “COVID safe” and enjoyable shopping experiences in their shops.

Gareth Wilkins Area Retail Manager, Bruntwood Works said: “Today has been a really positive day – we’re delighted to have welcomed back so many of our retailers.

"All our shops and their teams have worked so hard to make sure that they’re safe for customers, as well as providing an enjoyable shopping experience.

"It’s been inspiring to see how passionate retailers are about getting back into their shops and seeing their customers again.

"It has been a busy day in terms of visitor numbers, and crucially everyone has complied with all the new guidelines – it has worked well so far.

"We will continue to share news from all our retailers including those essential retailers that have stayed open throughout this period, who we’d like to thank for all their incredibly hard work in serving the community.”

Nigel Young from independent record shop Reel Around the Fountain, said: "It was a fantastic opening day - it felt great to be back in the shop chatting with the customers.

"We had a steady flow of music lovers - some of our regulars and new customers too.

"We’ve worked hard to make the shop COVID-safe and have managed to preserve the social side of browsing records alongside those measures - which include providing free disposable gloves for browsing, hand sanitiser on entry, and increased cleaning throughout.

"It is quite a spacious shop so we have been able to create a good environment for shopping and maintaining distance.

"Customers were great with the new systems , I think people were well prepared for a different experience ,and are keen to support local businesses which is great.”

As well as remaining open throughout lockdown, the Mall has also contributed and led on numerous virtual grassroots projects to keep the community inspired and entertained. This has included Stretford’s ‘at home’ VE Day celebrations, virtual Easter Bonnet Parades, a Mall Spotify channel, supporting Stretford in Bloom, and much more.
