A FORMER derelict squat could be yours – if you’ve got a spare £750,000 lying around.

The Grade II listed Trafford Park Hotel on Third Avenue, Trafford Park, is currently owned by the Ashley Hotels group, based in London, who only purchased the site this time last year.

But the chain has now put the landmark, vacant for 10 years, up for sale by auction through Pugh and Company on July 14. Bids will start at £750,000 despite the Ashley Hotels group buying it for £900,000 just last year.

An Ashley Hotels spokesman said the firm was working “in earnest” to secure planning permission for the Grade II listed building to turn it into a boutique hotel, but that ambition has since fallen through.

The firm withdrew a planning application to the council earlier this year to convert the building into a 121 bedroom hotel via a five-storey side extension.

Before the firm's involvement, the building was a homeless refuge and later a squat. The last time council officers inspected it they discovered a cannabis farm inside.
