A TRAFFORD charity has received a £100,000 grant from Trafford Housing Trust to help provide counselling to adults and children in the borough.

The Counselling and Family Centre, based at Stamford Park in Altrincham, will use the funding to continue to provide counselling support for those that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to receive it.

It is currently providing help for individuals, groups and families via telephone and video link during the coronavirus pandemic.

The charity has already had great success thanks to an earlier grant from the Trust, and the counselling provided has seen dramatic improvements for people suffering with severe anxiety, grief following a bereavement, depression, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Counsellors are trained to provide support for anyone struggling with addiction, victims of domestic abuse, or any mental health issues, and can provide counselling in different languages for those that need it.

Jo Allen, the centre's chief executive, said: “The shared commitment of Trafford Housing Trust and The Counselling and Family Centre to the wellbeing of the people of Trafford informs everything that we do, and at the heart of this is a focus on getting results and helping people back to mental health. We couldn’t do this without the support of the Trust.”

Fay Jackson, the trust's social investment manager, Trafford Housing Trust, added: “Mental health and wellbeing has been particularly tested over the last few months as a result of the virus, so the excellent work of The Counselling and Family Centre is more important than ever.

"We’re delighted to be supporting and working alongside them both now and in the future.”
