A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of a double murder after two women were killed at a Salisbury home.

Wiltshire Police says it received a call from a member of the public at 2.45pm today following concerns for the occupants of a house on Wessex Road.

When officers attended, the body of a woman was discovered, and another woman was found to be seriously injured.

Medics from the South Western Ambulance Service rushed to the scene, but the second woman was pronounced dead soon after they arrived.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken to Melksham custody.

No details of the women have been released at this stage.

It comes after the force said it was dealing with a "an assault" in Laverstock.

Officers are currently still at the scene, and are manning cordons on Manor Road, Kelsey Road, and Wessex Road.

DCI Darren Hannant from the Major Crime Investigation Team said: "Naturally people will be alarmed due to the large police presence in the area as we carry out our enquiries.

"I would like to reiterate that we have made an arrest and there is no risk posed to the wider community.
