Almost every part of Wirral has seen fatalities during the coronavirus pandemic, but one town in the west of the borough has suffered the most deaths.

New data from the Office for National Statistics shows deaths registered by April 18, for deaths between March 1 and April 17, where coronavirus “was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor”.

In this period, nine people died from the virus in Hoylake.

Other parts of the borough have also been hit hard.

Leasowe South and Moreton East, Bromborough South and the combined areas of Poulton, Raby Mere and Thornton Hough, all recorded eight deaths in this period.

A number of areas recorded seven coronavirus deaths, these were Heswall, Bidston Hill, Bebington, New Ferry and Poulton (Wallasey).

The figures do not account for deaths registered in the region after mid-April, so a more recent tally is not yet available at a local level.

Below is the death toll for each “neighbourhood”, as defined by the ONS, for deaths registered by April 18.
