RESIDENTS in Trafford are being urged to be vigilant after a man wearing an orange top knocked on a woman's door saying service provider Amey were working in the area and offered to clear her gutters.

The man, was described as white, local accent, slim build, 6ft tall, wearing an orange Amey top.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said "Amey never cold call and would not offer to do work like this".

People are also warned to look out for fake emails which offer a council tax rebate.

The initial email says you are entitled to a rebate and asks you to click on a link.

This link takes you to a page which looks like the Government's home page, which is here.

This page contains another link leading to a form that asks for personal and financial information.

Police said: "This is a scam. Never click on links or open attachments on emails that come out of the blue and never give personal or financial information to someone you do not know.

"Take five minutes to stop and think then check things out with a friend, relative or neighbour."

Residents are asked to report scams to Action Fraud by clicking here or by contacting 0300 123 2040.
