AN amazing woman has seen two of her organisations nominated for a Promoting Trafford award.

Jane Bancroft was put forward in her own right as Principal of Sale Academy of Dancing, for giving dancing lessons online.

And as chairman of Sale Nomads Theatre Club, she is equally pleased their members, who are creating scrubs and face masks for the NHS, have also been nominated.

On the academy's use of Zoom, Jane said: “Our aim is to maintain the kids’ love of the ballet, tap and modern jazz we teach them.

“We don’t know when we can resume classes at Sale Nomads Club House in Friars Road. If they would allow gatherings of 25 people, we could probably do it.”

Jane is especially disappointed their display at Waterside Arts in July may be cancelled by the virus.

“The children are already practising for it so, hopefully, it could be done next year,” said Jane.

Jane has danced since she was a toddler and was a professional for six years, appearing in panto at Stockport's Davenport Theatre and on stage and TV in Portugal.

The academy was started by Jane’s mum in 1943. A future principal, Muriel Spavin, joined when she was nine and ran it when Jane’s mum retired. Jane taught there for 25 years so it seemed natural she should take over from Muriel in 2004.

She is also connected with Sale Nomads, performing in musicals, plays and dancing for many years, appearing in her first panto aged 11. She has been chairman there for six years. Their wartime musical Stiff Upper Lip was cancelled due to the pandemic.
