RESIDENTS could wait four weeks for their they recycling bins to be emptied, say council chiefs, who added bin collections will take place today and on Easter Monday.

Priority is being given to grey bins and food waste during the current testing conditions as the country battles covid-19.

A Bolton Council spokesman said: "Waste and recycling services will continue to operate on bank holidays, and collections will take place as normal on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

"We are continuing to empty as many bins as possible, with priority being given to the collection of grey bins, green bins and food waste containers."

The spokesman added: "Recycling bins are being emptied but due to fewer staff resources, residents may have to wait four weeks for a collection. Please continue to present your recycling bins on the scheduled day of collection.

"If your bin is not emptied then please check the Has your bin been missed? web page for updates. If your street is not listed on that page, please return your bins to your property until your next scheduled collection day, as we will not be able to come back before then.

Unfortunately, we cannot collect side waste at this time — please try and reduce your waste as much as possible and put any excess waste into your bin after it has been collected.

"Thank you for your understanding at this time."
