The Rotary Club of Falmouth is helping fund three organisations playing a vital role in supporting isolated, particularly elderly, local people in the Covid-19 crisis.

The club has transferred funds totalling £1,500 to the town’s Salvation Army Centre, Falmouth Age Concern and the Dracaena Centre.

Dracaena Centre manager Richard May said: “Falmouth Rotary has granted the Dracaena Centre funds to purchase food to allow the staff to put together food boxes and create cooked meals which will be delivered to those people using the centre who may need a little bit of extra support and a morale boost in these difficult times.

"Food deliveries commence this week and will continue for the foreseeable future. The Trustees of the Charity and its staff team are very grateful for the donation and are looking forward to getting the parcels out regularly to as many people as possible.”

For the Salvation Army, Pastor Andrew Hammond said: “A big 'thank you' to Falmouth Rotary Club for the donation. We are very grateful. This is very timely.

"The Salvation Army is anticipating needs will continue to grow over the weeks and months to come. At the same time our charity shop obviously is temporarily closed, so your donation comes at a very critical time.”

Peter Maxted, manager of Falmouth Age Concern, said the donation would be a great help to his organisation in covering volunteer expenses during this difficult time.

Falmouth Rotary President, Peter Griffiths, said: “Though our fundraising activities have had to be put on hold for the time being, Falmouth Rotarians are determined to support the hard-working volunteers helping local vulnerable and elderly get through the current crisis”

Falmouth Rotary Club has been supporting the community since its foundation in 1922. The aims of Rotary are service before self, the maintenance of high ethical standards in business and the advancement of international understanding and goodwill.
