A MAN who crashed his car the morning after staying up to watch the Tyson Fury world heavyweight championship fight against Deontay Wilder was found to be over the drink drive limit.
Blackburn magistrates heard police were called to a single car crash on the A59 at 7.30am and Khalid Patel admitted he had been driving.
Patel, 21, of Harrow Drive, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was disqualified for 16 months and fined £300 with £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge.
Helen Farnsworth, defending, said her client had been out with his family the night before. He had drunk three pints before and during the fight and felt fine to drive in the morning.
Mrs Farnsworth said the road was flooded and her client hit a puddle which sent his car off the road and into a lamppost.
"He works as a vehicle technician in Haslingden and the loss of his licence is going to cause him difficulties," said Mrs Farnsworth.
