A CRAZED knifeman was described as climbing walls like "Spiderman" as he rampaged around Blackburn town centre in a bizarre manner.

Blackburn magistrates heard Paul Anthony Creasey was seen on Darwen Street at about 7 pm brandishing a knife with a 10-inch blade.

A witness could hear him shouting but not at anyone and formed the impression he was "off his head."

He saw Creasey slashing at the wall with the knife before he climbed six feet up the building prompting the comparison to spiderman.

Creasey, 37, of the Salvation Army Hostel, Heaton Street, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in a public place. He was jailed for six months.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said a second witness saw Creasey behaving in a "bizarre" manner and contacted the police.

He said a group of lads approached and were going to take the knife off Creasey but he stopped them and said the police were on their way.

"That witness said Creasey was not aggressive towards anyone else but he was brandishing the knife and behaving very strangely," said Miss Allan.

Richard Prew, defending, said his client had indicated that he was not prepared to work with the probation service or carry out any community penalty.

"He didn't use the knife against anyone else although he was behaving in a bizarre manner," said Mr Prew.
