A MAN stopped by police because they could smell cannabis on him found a small quantity of the drug.
Blackburn magistrates heard Lee Dainty also admitted that he had a lock-knife in his possession.
Dainty, 18, of Griffin Works, Accrington, pleaded guilty to possessing a folding knife with a blade over three inches and possession of a small quantity of cannabis. He was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced after the court was told he had a previous conviction for possession of a blade.
Alex Mann, prosecuting, said police carried out a stop search at 1.30am in Accrington town centre because Dainty smelled of cannabis.
“They found some in his pocket and he told the officers about the knife,” said Mrs Mann.
Aftab Bakhat, defending, said even though there was no suggestion the knife was produced or brandished it was accepted the previous conviction meant the offence would have to go to the Crown Court.
