THE following cases were among those heard at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ Court during the last week.

TONY BROWN, who is at HMP Northumberland, was given an 18 week concurrent prison sentence after he entered a property in May last year as a trespasser and stole electrical items and clothing worth £1,150. The 46-year-old indicated a plea of guilt and was ordered to pay £700 compensation.

PETER WHITWORTH, 33, of Grayson Road, Spennymoor, was given a seven day prison sentence after he failed to comply with the supervision requirements imposed following release from imprisonment after he failed to attend three appointments from November 2019 to January 2020.

ANDREW WOTTON, 38, of East Coronation Street, Murton, was given a ten week prison sentence after he pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the stalking of a woman from November 2019 to February of this year. He followed her to places she visited and contacted her by mobile making her feel compelled to reply so that he did not post sexually explicit pictures of her online. He also threatened to post the address of her parents online. Wotton was also in the dock after he damaged a police station cell door to the value of £60 belonging to Durham Police whilst intending to destroy of damage. He was given a restraining order banning his from contacting the victim and ordered to pay £60 compensation.

JOHN LOGAN, 20, of Hetton-Le-Hole, was conditionally discharged for 12 months after he dishonestly received stolen gardening equipment, a black plastic toolbox with an assortment of tools, a wooden handled claw hammer and a handsaw worth £150 in August 2018. The Richard Street resident indicated a plea of guilt and was ordered to pay £20 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

DAVID THOMAS BRANDON, of Hollyhill Gardens East, Stanley, was fined £80 after he threatened a woman on the phone with the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient in October 2019. The 25-year-old indicated a plea of guilt and was ordered to pay £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

SCOTT DAVIES, 27, of Owen Terrace, Stanley, was given a community order after he continually called and text a woman last month which he was prohibited from doing so following a non-molestation order made by Durham Family Court. He was also up in court after he damaged a letterbox and window without lawful excuse at the time. Davies was ordered to pay £70 compensation and £90 to fund victim services. In January he also refused to provide police with a specimen of blood after being suspected of committing a driving offence and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

PETER RAW, of Pudsey Walk, Newton Aycliffe, was fined £167 and given four penalty driving points after he breached the speed limit on a 40mph road in June 2019. The 51-year-old was also made to pay £85 compensation.

JOHN-LEE WAYPER, 39, of Bishop Auckland, was given three penalty driving points and ordered to pay £160 fine after he was caught behind the wheel in March 2019 exceeding the speed limit. The Lydgate Avenue resident was also made to pay £83 compensation and £30 to fund victim services.

RORY JAMES SCOTT, 32, of Burtree Lane, Darlington, was given six penalty driving points and was fined £120 after he was caught driving without a policy of insurance in September 2019. He was also made to pay £32 to fund victim services and was ordered to pay £85 compensation.

MICHAEL CRAIG STERLING, of Kempton Court, Darlington, was handed a community order and made to pay £90 to fund victim services after he sent messages and attended an address in January which he was prohibited to do so by a non-molestation order. The 37-year-old was also handed a restraining order and ordered to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

EMILY CHILDS, 19, of Medomsley Road, Consett, was fined £150 after she dropped litter in Pounds Court Car Park on three occasions between July and August 2019. The case was proved in her absence and she was made to pay £32 to fund victim services and £130 compensation.

AMANDA CLARK, of Marshall Road, Newton Aycliffe, was fined £100 after she failed to comply with a community protection notice in October 2019. The 57-year-old pleaded guilty and was also made to pay £32 to fund victim services and £110 compensation.

DAVID ALDERSON, 29, of Attlee Avenue, Blackhall Colliery, was handed a community order after he breached a restraining order earlier this month. He indicated a plea of guilt and was ordered to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

MICHAEL KIERNAN WATSON, 45, of Church Lane, Wolsingham, was discharged conditionally for 12 months after he stole gin worth £80 from the Co-op. He was made to pay £40 compensation.
