THE new Provost of Altrincham has been named as Tony Collier.
It is another honour for the 62-year-old, from Timperley, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in June.
As the co-owner of an accountancy firm, Tony was a member of Altrincham Chamber of Commerce for 35 years eventually becoming President.
He also helped to steer the Altrincham Business Plan through to its adoption by Trafford Borough Council.
“We did the biggest public consultation in Altrincham’s history,” he said proudly.
Tony suffers from prostate cancer and it is terminal.
“My aim, whilst Provost, will be to raise awareness of the third biggest British cancer killer in the UK,” he said.
“Every year 47,000 men are diagnosed, 9,000 of whom, like me, terminally, because there are no symptoms. I have to watch what I take on but, at the moment, I am OK.
“It’s a cancer which is a slow burner for some.”
