KATE Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, paid tribute to Manchester’s “great musical tradition” in Parliament.
During a Westminster Hall debate on the contribution of music to the UK, the MP recognised Manchester’s world-class orchestras such as the Hallé, the Manchester Camerata and the BBC Philharmonic.
Kate also praised Manchester music schools such as Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, and Trafford Music Service, which provides opportunities for local young people to develop their music potential.
Kate said: “I was really pleased to speak up on behalf of Manchester’s great musical tradition in parliament.
“Since I was first elected as MP for Stretford and Urmston nearly ten years ago, I’ve been so impressed by the work of the Trafford Music Service in developing local talent and had the enormous pleasure of watching our great orchestras perform.
“I’ll do everything I can to ensure that our local music scene at every level gets the recognition and funding it deserves.”
