AN Ainsworth resident who lived in Australia during her 20s is hosting a bake sale to raise funds for people and animals that have been devastated by bushfires.

Bolton-born Charlotte Evans has called on bakers to bring their favourite cakes and tray bakes to her fundraising event on Sunday, January 26, and for cake eaters across Bury and Bolton to buy a slice or two. In addition to the sweet treats on offer at Ainsworth Methodist Church hall, there will be a craft area for children.

Proceeds will be given to the Australian volunteer fire brigades of New South Wales and Victoria and Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund.

Ms Evans, who is hosting the Bake Aid event with her four-year-old son Harry, said: "Australia is a place I hold close to my heart, having lived there for seven years and experienced bushfires whilst living in the outback.

"I still have lots of friends there – some of whom are affected by the bushfires – and some who are volunteer firefighters.

"It’s a rich country but the scale of this is beyond belief and animals don’t have insurance – and they need everyone’s help – to raise funds to co-ordinate veterinary care and rescue attempts to save anyone who has survived."

The church has donated the use of their hall free of charge. The cake sale will take place between 12.30pm-2.30pm.
