A RECORD number of coaches have visited the award-winning Bury Market, new figures show.

The market welcomed more than 1,800 coaches in 2019, bringing shoppers from far and wide to see the famous destination.

In November last year, a total of 296 coaches visited the site, setting a new monthly record.

Andrew Heyes, markets manager, said: “Bury has long been a favourite coach destination for those seeking to experience a traditional market, and the number of coach visits has steadily increased each year since records began in 2008.

“We’re delighted that so many coach operators continue to visit our famous award-winning market. The visits from coaches are important to the growth of the market and hopefully these visits will continue going from strength to strength.”

There are more than 350 stalls on Bury Market, which is open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Located at the heart of the town, the market has won several awards, including The National Association of British Market's (NABMA's) Market Attraction of the year in 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2019.

As is tradition, NABMA will announce the winners of the Great British Market of the Year 2020 at its One Day Conference, held in Birmingham on January 30.
