Trafford Council is to set up a Joint Venture with a housing trust to deliver much-needed homes - including affordable - in part of Old Trafford.

The Council’s Executive approved the proposal for the JV between Trafford Council and Trafford Housing Trust (THT) at its meeting on Monday evening.

The Council and THT can now push ahead with proposed plans to build new housing as part of the Tamworth Phase II development off Bold Street in Old Trafford.

The site, which was previously used for housing, shops and a public house but all buildings have been demolished, potentially has capacity for in excess of 150 new homes and can deliver a choice of houses and apartments and for a range of tenures.

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, said after the meeting:

The scheme will go some way to meeting the demand for housing in Trafford and will provide people with attractive properties in a good location. Trafford, like many other areas, desperately needs new homes that people can afford to live in.

It is also important to note that in line with this council’s priorities, this development is on brownfield land in a sustainable location.

Trafford Council and THT have worked together for the past 10 years on delivering homes and further development through the Old Trafford Masterplan."
