POLICE wearing plain clothing are stepping up patrols across the south of Bury in response to concerns raised by residents.

The neighbourhood policing team has received reports about a number of burglaries, car thefts and criminal damage.

They have moved to reassure residents that they are "fully aware" of concerns and have arranged for officers to patrol the area.

Police also urged property owners to secure their homes by locking windows and doors, not leaving their cars unattended and installing burglar alarms, among other advice.

GMP Bury South posted on Facebook on Tuesday: "As a neighbourhood team, we acknowledge the concern which has been raised on social media in relation to ongoing issues within our area.

"We would like to assure you all that we are fully aware of the issues being raised in the community.

"We have in place plain clothes / high visibility patrols out patrolling on both overtime, and duty time, in the area. Additionally our PCSOs have been conducting extensive house to house enquiries, leaflet drops and reassurance visits.

"This is an ongoing operation for Bury South.

"As ever, we cannot reinforce the point enough for you to secure your own property as best as possible."

Police have advised residents to:

1. Lock windows and doors (even when inside the house)

2. Not leave car unattended whilst defrosting it

3. Leave lights on, or use timers when you are out

4. Use external lights

5. Use internal door locks

6. Use Faraday cages for vehicles with keyless entry

7. Install and use burglar alarm (setting it on a “zone” when going to bed etc)

8. Have a safe for your valuables, placed in a discreet location in the home

9. Install anti-snap locking cylinders

10. Install CCTV

Officers have also offered home security assessments to help residents. To arrange a visit, call police on 0161 856 3162 or email burysouth@gmp.police.uk.
