FIRE crews were called to the scene of a crash after a 4x4 collided with a lamppost in Astley Bridge.

The female driver of the black 4x4 came away unscathed. However her vehicle and the signpost were left damaged as a result of the incident this morning.

Police, fire crews and Bolton Council representatives attended the scene in Blackburn Road, opposite Asda, shortly before 10am.

Andy Kopicki, watch manager at Bolton North Fire Station, said: "We were called to a crash in Blackburn Road involving a 4x4 and a lamppost.

"The local authority had to be called to make the scene safe.

"There was damage to the vehicle and sign. We placed a cordon around the sign.

"One of the lanes was shut temporarily. We isolated the car battery and made the scene safe."

Crews remained in attendance for about 30 minutes.
