THE festive season is meant to be a time of goodwill towards all men and women.

Well, a seven-year-old Sale schoolboy and his family have it in their droves after going on a personal mission to help the homeless.

Harrison Brown of Tyntesfield Primary School was intrigued as to why there were people on the streets who didn’t have a home to go to or food to eat.

So the youngster recently gave out supply boxes for people in Manchester.

Mum Melissa said: "I am really proud of him and I know how inquisitive a seven-year-old get very inquisitive and started to ask about homeless people.

"He soon started to appreciate the simple things in life after we explained to him that what he takes for granted, like having warm bed and clean clothes, was a million miles away from what the homeless have.

"His compassion and empathy were ignited and over the course of a few weeks he set about putting together shoe boxes filled with essentials, such as thermals and toiletries.

"The whole family got on board from his great-grandparents to his cousins, all contributing and also teaming up him on November 30 to walk around Manchester for three hours to find as many homeless people as possible.

"The reaction was inspiring; the gratitude shown was touching and has had a lasting and positive impact on Harrison.

"He has learned that one simple act of kindness can make a massive difference to others and now he wants to inspire others to do the same."

Melissa says that the family are looking to do something similar next year for homeless people.

She added: "Harrison was a bit nervous about it at first meeting the people but once he got speaking to them he was okay.

"We managed to put together 30 boxes and bags full of clothes too to hand out.

"The homeless people were so grateful and positive and they were very shocked to see a young boy being so generous.

"Hopefully it can inspire some other people to do the same and help the homeless."
