GENEROUS shoppers are being asked to spread the Christmas spirit to those who are struggling this year.

The Salvation Army is looking to make sure that no children go without toys during the festive period by collecting extra gifts.

The charity has launched its annual Christmas Present Appeal and its church and community centre in Farnworth, located on Brackley Street, is encouraging people to add an extra toy to their shopping list this year to help families who are struggling to buy a gift for their children.

Major Paul Wilson, joint leader of the church and community centre, said: “We work with members of the local community on a daily basis and see that there is a real need for support in the area, especially at Christmas time when there is already the added expense that comes with the season.

“Part of our mission is to support those that are struggling and so this appeal will go a little way to bring some joy to people’s lives.

"The generosity of the local community is amazing, even those that don’t have a lot want to help each other in some way which is great to see.”

People are invited to drop a new, unused and unwrapped toy for children and young people aged 0 to 16 years old, to the collection point at the church and community centre in Brackley Street. Additional drop off locations can also be found at The Salvation Army Citadel on George Street, Bolton, Natwest Bank on Market Street, Farnworth, and The Horseshoe on Fold Road, Radcliffe.

All gifts must be received by Monday, December 16. The Salvation Army will then sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area.
