A ROW has broken out over bin collections in Trafford.

Residents on the Cedar Court retirement complex in Timperley are angry after waiting a fortnight for their food waste to be collected.

Despite calls to Amey and Trafford Council, the pensioners are calling for action as their bins are overflowing.

Jackie Burns, who lives on the complex off Edenhurst Drive, believes 'enough is enough'.

The 73-year-old said: "We have had terrible problems with our bin waste. They are now overflowing and there is no space to put any more in them.

"We have contacted Amey and the council and told them they had to be collected by the end of the day.

"The bin wagons came on Monday to some houses nearby and we thought oh, great they will be coming to us but they did not.

"It is not fit and healthy for us to be living like this.

"Some of the people who live here are elderly and cannot get out to a rubbish tip to take it away.

"We are tax payers we should not have to wait for it to be cleared.

Meanwhile, it was a similar situation for residents on McCarthy and Stone Retirement Apartments on Speakman Court in Altrincham.

An 83-year-old resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "We had been waiting for four or five weeks for it to be cleared.

"They came on Monday morning to clear it but there is still some food waste outside.

"It was a real health hazard and we had a rat in our garden earlier this year and we were worried about more coming back.

"There have been some foxes around here and you really don't want that.

"The smell was getting upsetting for some of the residents.

"They said (Amey) that it was a problem with the collection day changing but at least it was cleared."

The news comes two months after it was reported in the Messenger that changes to bin collection times had caused chaos across Trafford with complaints streaming into the authority.

A spokesperson for the One Trafford Partnership said: “We are part way through a large service change, covering the whole of the Trafford borough.

"There have been some missed collections and while we are working hard to sort any problems as they arise, some are taking longer than anticipated to resolve.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience during this change.

“If any residents have experienced a missed collection, then they can report it to us at www.trafford.gov.uk/report-it or 03330 035 865.”
