A popular ice rink will host a one-off event and will be able to serve alcohol later into the night thanks to a council decision.

On Tuesday December 3, Trafford Council granted an application for a licence change by the owners of Altrincham’s Silver Blades Ice Rink in Oakfield Road to allow them to serve alcohol until 11.30pm for a boxing event on Friday December 13.

Despite a complaint from a nearby resident about noise following previous boxing matches at the venue earlier this year, the extension of the licencing hours was approved.

The nearby resident, who lives on Oakfield Road, opposed the bid due to their concerns about noise and nuisance, which they believe is worsened by the provision of alcohol.

They said: “Residents are already disturbed by the ice rink’s normal events, but at least these events end at a generally reasonable time.

“Giving the venue free reign to disturb residents 365 days a year into the early hours is just not acceptable.”

In spite of this, Trafford Council granted permission for the event, with the condition that alcohol cannot be served later than 11.30pm, originally event organisers had asked for an extension until midnight.

The rink is also home to the popular Manchester Storm ice hockey team and is where they regularly play matches on Sundays.
