A FRESH appeal has been made for the suspected murderers of an East Lancashire father-of-four – one year on from his killing.

One man, Nabeel Choudhary, is serving a 26-year sentence for the murder of Yasir Hussain, from Nelson, who was stabbed three times in the back, while visiting family in Dudley.

But detectives insist seven men spilled out of a van, outside the Golden City takeaway in the town, on December 4 last year and took part in the fatal attack on the 34-year-old shopkeeper.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Mr Hussain was attacked while sitting in a car outside the takeaway, with his cousin, and was never the intended target for the violence, which stemmed from a bitter feud between two families.

His brother-in-law and sister have now appealed for the public's help in tracing the six outstanding suspects, who were armed with machete and knives when they fled from the killing.

Speaking in Dudley Mohammed Azam said: "Yasir was good at heart, like a teddy bear. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He couldn't hurt a fly.

"His wife and children deserve justice. His youngest child was so close to his father, he picks up the phone to Facetime his father and then realises he’s not here.

"For the community down here it could be anyone else's child, another family could suffer the same way we’re suffering."

Family members attended every day of the murder trial at Birmingham Crown Court earlier this year.

Mr Azam says he now hopes to launch a charity in Yasir’s name to help the homeless in a bid to keep his memory alive.

His sister, Yasmin Akhtar, added: "As a family, we are still broken and destroyed by Yasir’s death. It was unnecessary and cruel.

"Yasir was a kind and gentle man. He was married to Tanveer and they have four beautiful children together. She has lost her husband and best friend, the children have lost their loving father."

Detectives have released CCTV showing men wielding machetes and other weapons, at the scene of the killing.

Yasmin added: "No sentence that is passed will ever change things and bring Yasir back, we know that.

"Only those involved know what happened that night and they have to live knowing what it has done to our close and loving family.

"We still need to know what happened and more importantly, why, and for those other people involved to be brought to justice for the pain and suffering they’ve caused our family."

Chief Supt Sally Bourner, of Dudley Police, said: "This is a tragic loss of life of a young family man, which has left four children to grow up without their father.

"I offer my sincere condolences to Mr Hussain’s family who have been extremely courageous speaking out. I thank them for their bravery on what is a very emotional day for them.

"We know there was an ongoing feud at the time and we do not believe Yasir was the intended target.

"The levels of violence used on our streets was shocking and unacceptable. We need to find those responsible and bring them to justice - we need your help to do this - so please do the right thing and tell us what you know."
