Ray Quinn will NOT be at tonight's Christmas lights switch-on.

The X-Factor finalist and TV star is said to have "stepped aside" to let Bolton's Jenny Ryan take centre stage.

The star's representative confirmed that Ray would not be making an appearance at the event.

He said: "I have spoken to the Panto production company and made the decision to remove Ray from the location.

"He has been sent home and will return tomorrow when rehearsals continue.

"Ray has decided due to recent events and the connection between Jenny Ryan and Bolton to let her take centre stage in the proceedings.

"Ray wishes the people of Bolton all the best for the future."

He is set to return to Bolton when rehersals for the Albert Halls panto, Aladdin, continue.

The news comes after Bolton Council tweeted: "The lovely @therealRayQuinn has graciously stepped aside to let Bolton’s own @jenlion switch in the Xmas lights in her home town. Touching gesture from Ray after a tough week for Bolton. What a class act."

The lights will be turned on at 7pm by Jenny Ryan, Father Christmas, and Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough.
