A SHOW-STOPPING display will light up the grounds of an historic Georgian house in time for the Christmas season.

The gardens at Dunham Massey in Trafford will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland.

Visitors can expect to see stunning light sculptures and glistening giant deer at this year’s Christmas at Dunham Massey showcase.

An installation of 50 flowers will also be illuminated on one of the lawns to create a carpet of colour-changing blooms.

Now in its third year, the illuminated trail around the National Trust property attracts hundreds of visitors.

Kirsten Warren, general manager at Dunham Massey, said: "Each year we see the illuminated trail develop with stunning new artist installations alongside returning family-favourites – Cranberry Sparklesnaps our giant deer is a must-see.

“Bringing the house and gardens to life with the sights and sounds of Christmas creates such a magical experience — we can’t wait to see the stunning new sculptures light up.”

The trail takes visitors of all ages on a mile-long walk.

The 2019 Christmas display will feature various international sculpture artists, including Australia’s Mandylights, whose iconic Cathedral of Light will return this year. The 30m long majestic window-like structure creates a tunnel of light for visitors to wander through.

On the water there will be Lightworks’ Fire Garden made of rings of fire.

Bringing the front of Dunham Massey house to life will be an interactive ‘walking’ theatre, which audiences can stop to watch.

Other features will be crackling firework trees and a large sea of light which uses sound, light and technology, both created by multi-sensory artists Ithaca.

As visitors meander through the grounds, there will be 10 illuminated hearts which appear to float above their heads, designed by UK-based Cristina Ottonello.

To make the occasion even more jolly, visitors can walk under the stars with a spiced cider, mulled wine or hot chocolate, at additional cost, or gather around the fire-pit to toast marshmallows.

Christmas at Dunham Massey opens on November 22 and runs until December 30.

Admission costs £17.50 for adults, £11 for children aged three to 16, and £54 for a family ticket.
