THE REGION could be in for a soaking over the weekend, as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the North West.

This part of the country is braced for heavy and persistent downpours on Saturday, which could lead to severe flooding and disruption in areas.

Fast flowing or deep floodwater could cause a possible danger to life.

The Met Office also advised that homes and businesses are at small risk of being flooded and damage could be caused to buildings.

Power cuts and loss of other services are even being suggested by forecasters.

Careful driving is further advised, as spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions. Drivers could be in store for road closures, so keep an eye out for updates.

Some areas in the region could expect 15-25mm of rain during the day with isolated totals of 40-60mm possible over higher ground in particular.

The rain is expected to ease through the course of Saturday night.
