TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of terror offences close to Manchester city centre.
Police responded to reports of two men 'acting suspiciously' in Chapel Street, Salford, this afternoon — a short distance from Manchester's centre.
Officers rushed to attend and just after 2.30pm, arrested two men in Deansgate after a Range Rover was pulled over, which it is understood they were travelling in.
A section of Deansgate was cordoned off this evening while police began investigations into 'suspicious items' discovered in the car. It was later confirmed by police that the items posed no threat to the public.
The men remain in custody for questioning on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, according to Greater Manchester Police. Further details about the suspects are still unknown.
