Sale Rugby Club is to hold a fundraising quiz to help buy Christmas Lights for Sale town centre in late November.

An appeal from Sale Town Partnership for donations to ‘Make Sale Shine this Christmas’ has so far raised around £4,000 from local businesses and residents.

However, another £2,000 is needed, and with a deadline for ordering lights fast approaching, businesses are being urged to pay £100 each for a table of eight at the Festive Quiz, at Sale Rugby’s Heywood Road ground on November 28th.

Paul Mirage, of GM Biz Connect, who are co-organisers of the event, said: “We are asking local business to pledge the money now, so we can order the lights.

“We are especially urging the restaurants and bars to chip in as they are the ones who will benefit from the extra visitors to Sale the lights will bring.”

Council cutbacks mean there are no funds for festive decorations in the town, and the appeal was launched in September across social media.

Janine Friston, of Sale Town Partnership, said: “We want to bring Christmas to the areas that will make the best visual impact and provide the best welcome to shoppers, residents and visitors to the town.

“We’ve had some great donations so far from Trafford Veterans, Friends of Walkden Gardens, as well as local residents.

“We have enough so far for the real tree and the lights outside the Town Hall. However, we’d also like to be able to string some lights along School Road – which will be around a further £2,000.”

A fundraising page has been set up at: justgiving.com/crowdfunding/salechristmaslights where people are able to donate

If you would like to enter the quiz you can reserve a table at the Just Giving page, where you must state the business name, so the club can allocate your table.
