A MAN has been arrested after two police officers were assaulted this morning.
Officers were called to Clitheroe at 5am following reports vehicles were been damaged, with one woman saying her wing mirror had been knocked off.
When police arrived they found three people in the street, including one man who was drunk and abusive.
As two officers - one male and one female - went to arrest him in Henthorn Road at around 5.30am a police spokesman said they were both punched and kicked.
The female officer was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and remains in custody this evening.
A police spokesman said: "During the early hours of Saturday, October 18, police received reports of vehicles being damaged in Clitheroe.
"Officers responded quickly which resulted in the arrest of an intoxicated male.
"During the incident two officers were assaulted resulting in one of them attending hospital.
"Fortunately neither officer has suffered serious injury.
"The male remains in custody and will be interviewed and dealt with accordingly."
