DRAMA fans might be interested in the latest TV project being filmed in the town starring Stephen Fry and Neil Patrick Harris.

Le Mans Crescent will be closed tomorrow and Friday while 'Boys', a five-part series for Channel 4, is filmed.

The show follows three teenage boys, Ritchie, Roscoe, and Colin, who become friends as they begin their new life in 1980s London.

As the decade passes and the AIDS epidemic spreads, the group still have to deal with rejection and the prejudices that gay men faced.

Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander will take on the leading role of Ritchie Tozler.

Newcomer Omaria Douglas plays Roscoe Babatunde, with Callum Scott Howard as Colin Morris-Jones.

The cast also includes Keeley Hawes as Ritchie’s mum, and Shaun Dooley as his dad alongside Stephen Fry, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tracy Ann Oberman.

Leader of Bolton Council and Greater Manchester portfolio lead for culture, Cllr David Greenhalgh, said: “It’s wonderful that Bolton is being highlighted on the big and small screen, and this latest filming confirms our popularity as a filming destination.

"We are proud of the fact that we are attracting such a wide range of filming requests.

"It’s testament to the hard work of those involved that we are attracting such high profile companies, and bringing much welcome additional revenue into the borough."

Bolton was recently the filming location for series nine of ITV's Cold Feet and Sky's new sci-fi drama Intergalactic.

The council have dealt with hundreds of filming requests over the last two years, with almost 200 requests made in the 2016/17 financial year alone.

An August report said the council had made £106,550 since April from production companies choosing to film in Bolton.

The drama was written by Russell T Davies of Queer As Folk and A Very English Scandal.

Davies is known for his emotional dramas, frequently featuring gay or sex-related adult themes.

The show is produced by RED Production Company, who describe it as a "series that remembers the boys we lost, and celebrates those lives that burned so brightly."

Filming has just started, and the series is expected to air in 2020.
