A MUM and her six-year-old son are hoping to provide a ‘mini Christmas dinner’ for homeless people and their pets.

For the past couple of years, Lucia Bogart, 32, her partner Jordan and her son Leyton have been taking leftovers around Bolton town centre to feed the homeless.

Last year, they managed to feed 30 people but they are hoping to raise money so that they can provide for even more this time around.

Ms Bogart said: “It started with a gentleman who lived in a tent outside the Asda in Astley Bridge. We used to see him upset all the time and he’d tell us stories.

“I explained to Leyton about homeless people last year and he’s absolutely massive on it. When we were handing out the food, he was crying and asking why their hands were dirty. He really wants to get involved more this year.

“McDonald’s helped us by donating food trays, along with salt and pepper. Unfortunately though, we just never have enough food and we had people asking for more once it was gone.”

Ms Bogart is hoping to initially raise £700 to rent out a kitchen and buy materials to help cook and deliver the food to the homeless people.

It is not just food she wants provide this year either.

She added: “In the past, we’ve made bubble and squeak on barms because I love that but it would be nice if we could actually get some turkey in and do them a mini Christmas dinner.

“Last year, I spent around £250 in total including what I spent on Christmas dinner for four of us at home but we definitely need more because that was just a case of cooking extra.

“As well as food, we also want to provide sleeping bags. Some homeless have pets as well so we would love to provide a food parcel for their pets too.

“We need to raise enough money to get food supplies, cutlery, a flask, as well as stuff for the pets.

“It would be nice if we could do Bolton and Manchester.”
