Community champion Claire Wright from Stretford, has been presented with Sale Rotary Club's prestigious 'Tom Morris Award' by the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Rob Chilton.

The annual award is a 'people's honour' for those who give 'service above self' to the community in and around Sale.

Since she retired as a Wren Engineering Mechanic aboard a Royal Navy aircraft carrier, she has worked with veterans and people in need across Trafford.

Claire runs an allotment in Sale maintained by a group helpers, organises a football team in Timperley, a coffee and food share morning in Partington, and a craft club in Stretford.

Her veterans’ breakfast at the John Alker Hall in Flixton on every third Saturday, is popular and ensures their countless sacrifices are not forgotten.

President of Sale Rotary Club, John Alcock, said “Claire is a passionate and dedicated community activist.

She devotes an enormous amount of time to ensuring that veterans in Trafford are supported and not isolated. She is a worthy recipient of our annual Tom Morris Award."
